Ebola a setback for Morocco

Good friends, let me take you back when Morocco was
supposed to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament but due to
the Ebola outbreak, it was not so. The people of Morocco had the opportunity to
witness one the most entertaining sporting event in Africa but the cruelty of
Ebola didn't allow this to come to pass. Yes, it was a life time opportunity to
have all African eyes on you especially hosting an event that big. In my own
view I think this has created a negative publicity from a public relations
point of view. This has become a set for
them a lot because they have not only lost the rights to host the 2015 finals
but they have suspended from taking part in next coming championship.
I am speaking like this because I know the publicity and
all the attention that you as country receive when hosting an event of that
magnitude since South Africa hosted the tournament twice (1998 & 2013)
including the world cup. Now I wonder "why did the representative of Morocco wanted the tournament to be postponed?" But facts show that
"only four out of the 54 countries have been affected by the virus"
and that excludes Morocco. Moreover the facts showed that the virus has also
affected a few European countries and African countries in the west and my
findings did not show me anything about a Northern African country being
affected by the virus. This led to CAF having to start again and look for the
replacement Morocco to host the tournament. Few countries were suggested to
host the tournament since Morocco failed to do so. Angola, Egypt, Gabon and
Nigeria were countries being touted as possible replacements to host this
tournament. Never the less the country that was named as the new of Afcon 2015
was Equatorial Guinea.
Sport stars unite against Ebola

Ebola has been a serious crisis worldwide that has not only
affected African soccer players but also European stars as well, the virus
raised few football stars that they should come together and unite in hopes of
creating more awareness about this chronic disease, in order to fight against
it because this is not a African crisis alone but a Global issue that affects
all. Federation International of
Football Association (FIFA) and World Health Organization came up a campaign to
fight against this disease "together we can beat Ebola" is the name
of the campaign.
So good friends Ebola is serious global crisis that's need to be prevented from spreading, we have cried its enough now and the ball is our hands to make sure that we don't fight a battle that we can't win. "Together we can Ebola".
This was an interesting approach to this sensitive topic, but as the public relations practitioner that you are what would have you done to resolve the bad publicity of the match being suspended and for them losing their rights to host the finals?
ReplyDeleteI mean first of all Morocco was not even affected by the virus, so i don't why did they had to put themselves under pressure that much.
ReplyDeleteI think it is because there gonna be lots of Africans who come from some west African countries, so they didn't wanna put anyone at risk
DeleteI think it is because there gonna be lots of Africans who come from some west African countries, so they didn't wanna put anyone at risk
Deleteyeah I feel for the Moroccans, they have missed out due to this evil virus. But I must say it is good to see influential people like Ronaldo taking a step to raise awareness.
ReplyDeleteYeah @Nosibusiso it always good to see people like Ronaldo doing good things like the Ebola awareness
DeleteYes when it Comes to Public Relations it is negative but let us face reality. who would risk their lives? you maybe? I'D RATHER NOT TAKE PLACE IN THE NEXT COMING CHAMPIONSHIP THAN TO GET EBOLA.i'm entitled to my own opinion though,no offense brother!
ReplyDeletei do not understand why though? because the only countries who were affected by the virus were the west African Countries.
DeleteNature called and there was no potential tool to use in eliminating this Ebola virus. But its now great because something is being done about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, its sign that shows the rest of the world that Africa is developing
DeleteI think Moroccian government put the lives of their people first. South Africa also rejected to host this tournament, maybe the government did that because they knew that it not easy to heal ebola, and preventing is better then healing
ReplyDeletethe only reason why the South African government rejected to host was because it was short notice, and they had just hosted the tournament in 2013
DeleteI agree with you Morocco could have continued hosting the tournament but everyone who was going to attend the tournament should have came with proof of medical certificates.
ReplyDeleteYes that the way forward which Morocco could have used a simple strategy that was cheap
