Urban Farmers

Students’ up-lift Local farmers

Public Relation's to bring change in urban farming and food security
Earlier this year the second year of Public Relations were assigned to develop a Public Relations Plan for the local farms which leave at Soweto. The of aim of this project was to apply competence skills which we developed since from first year. We were given a role to assist the farmers by trying to attract more customers for them, media publicity, and awareness around the community where the farm is located at. However our farm was not a commercial farm but a community farm/garden to which is used to boost community members which are unemployed.
Some of the Challenges which our farmer faced.
  • Lack of Human resources
  • Inadequate working tools and materiel
  • Lack of Publicity around the community
  • Lack of communication between leadership/committee members of the farm.
What did we do?
  • We attracted young people and had a workshop with them, telling them about the importance of food security and how farming can used to alleviate poverty within our communities. Furthermore we asked young people within that community to volunteer their time in helping in the farm/garden whenever they had time because the person who was working there was an old person.
  • We also made a few calls to some of the local committee members to address the issue of working tools and materiel that must be used for particular garden.
  • Lack of Publicity, this where most of our Public Relations techniques had to come into place for the farm and community.
  • This was a huge crisis for the farm because some of the farmers were not present during our time we visited the farm not even a single time.
What Did I learn?
To organize my group: Some of the group members would come and say they don't have money to go to Soweto, and sometimes I had to sacrifice my last money and give transportation fee for that group member who couldn't afford
To conduct small events: To plan and organize an event of 15-30 people, during the day of the work shop.
To be a team player: Not every group member would their work so i had to teach myself to be ready at all times, and give myself extra work for just in case the other group member didn't do their part there was plan B.

BATHATHE YOUTH ACCELERATION PROGRAMME

Youth unemployment

Harambee youth Members

This is a serious crisis in South Africa for both graduations and unemployed youth within our country, in the second semester in our Professional Practice class we were asked to develop a plan to alleviate the unemployment rate by applying Public Relations within different sectors of education and our communities which we belong too. It has been said in the previous years that “without education pupils have no future”. But lately we have been undergoing something contrary to the above quote. However in this belong I won’t be outlining the issue in details however I will be discussing some Public Relations skills such Writing, media engagement, client/stakeholder management, campaign development and strategy.

Writing

  • Blog post was written to address some the issues that the youth face when it comes to unemployment challenges and what can it be done to address some of those issues.
  •   Power Point presentation was written with a specific proposal to present in front of our class; this presentation was mainly about the plan.
  •  An A4 poster calling all students to come and attend a career workshop which we wanted to host (Due to failure of reaching our partner Harambee the events was unsuccessful)

Media Engagement

  • ·      Traditional media was used for to connect with our public/stakeholders by designing a poster, we had planned to invite students, to use Harambee to search for job opportunities.
A4 Poster was used to invite students.
  • Digital Media using a blog was written to address some the issues that the youth face when it comes to unemployment challenges and what can it be done to address some of those issues.

      Campaign development

  • Campus tour
  • The use of both Digital media and Traditional media
  • Distribution of pamphlets to universities

 Strategy

Last but list not the our strategy was create unemployment awareness among undergraduates and postgraduates students that they should not wait for jobs to come to them but however they should start applying while there are still students. Furthermore would the issue of experience vs qualification.

Cassper Nyovest

Cassper takes five at the Metros

The five awards that Cassper Nyovest collected during the 14th Metro Fm awards

I am not a number one hip hop fan but i can guarantee the readers that what happened on Saturday (28 February 2015) during 14th Metro Fm awards surly caught my attention about the industry. Before the event people have been asking questions about "who is the hip hop artist between AKA and Cassper Nyovest?” This also adds to the tension which the two had against each other. Cassper came out top during the MMA as he won 5 while his biggest rival scooped one award. This has been one of those huge Twitter trends especially when Cassper took most of the awards during the evening. The role of social played a huge part to Cassper after winning the awards which he won during ceremony because his followers on twitter were able to congratulate him and wished all the best of picking up his awards

The young artist

Casper did not only prove to the public that he is good at what he does, he also proved to his competitor AKA (Mr Forbes) that he can also swim with the big fishes. personally i do not care what encouraged the beef between the two but i admire good music, i applaud those that do good. I mean 5:1 is a shame in soccer, just imagine it in music, crap!. I was impressed with his word "God is good all the time, all the time God is good" after he was handed an award. furthermore Mr Nyovest continued to utter "he is grateful for social media for that's what he met a young boy who gave him the song" 'Doc Shebeleza', he also  continued his talk to thank his Public relations team.

Awards Which won Cassper during the 14th Metros

Cassper Nyovest (24) a multi metro fm music awards winner

  • Best Hip Hop Album
  • Best Male Album
  • Song of the year "Doc Shebeleza"
  • Best Hit Single
  • Listeners Choice

" GOD is Good all the time, All the time GOD is GOOD"

The role of Public Relations in the music industry

This has been one of the most important campaigns for Cassper especially for a new kid on the block like Cassper, i think that his Public Relations team worked real hard to promote Nyovest as a brand, regardless of the negative Publicity which he had with regard to  the saga between him and AKA but still the fans chose him as number one musician in the 14th Metro Fm Music awards.

Ebola in the world of Sports

Ebola a setback for Morocco

Ebola impacts on sports

Good friends, let me take you back when Morocco was supposed to host the 2015 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament but due to the Ebola outbreak, it was not so. The people of Morocco had the opportunity to witness one the most entertaining sporting event in Africa but the cruelty of Ebola didn't allow this to come to pass. Yes, it was a life time opportunity to have all African eyes on you especially hosting an event that big. In my own view I think this has created a negative publicity from a public relations point of view.  This has become a set for them a lot because they have not only lost the rights to host the 2015 finals but they have suspended from taking part in next coming championship.

I am speaking like this because I know the publicity and all the attention that you as country receive when hosting an event of that magnitude since South Africa hosted the tournament twice (1998 & 2013) including the world cup. Now I wonder "why did the representative of Morocco wanted the tournament to be postponed?" But facts show that "only four out of the 54 countries have been affected by the virus" and that excludes Morocco. Moreover the facts showed that the virus has also affected a few European countries and African countries in the west and my findings did not show me anything about a Northern African country being affected by the virus. This led to CAF having to start again and look for the replacement Morocco to host the tournament. Few countries were suggested to host the tournament since Morocco failed to do so. Angola, Egypt, Gabon and Nigeria were countries being touted as possible replacements to host this tournament. Never the less the country that was named as the new of Afcon 2015 was Equatorial Guinea.

Sport stars unite against Ebola

(Picture above)Cristiano Ronaldo(30), 4 times world footballer of  the year winner and Real Medrid player , joins the fight against Ebola
Ebola has been a serious crisis worldwide that has not only affected African soccer players but also European stars as well, the virus raised few football stars that they should come together and unite in hopes of creating more awareness about this chronic disease, in order to fight against it because this is not a African crisis alone but a Global issue that affects all.  Federation International of Football Association (FIFA) and World Health Organization came up a campaign to fight against this disease "together we can beat Ebola" is the name of the campaign.

So good friends Ebola is serious global crisis that's need to be prevented from spreading, we have cried its enough now and the ball is our hands to make sure that we don't fight a battle that we can't win. "Together we can Ebola".
